There is no community without members.. duh! And a community is built upon its strong core. WYGU’s core is made of our most active members. Some even took a step further – today, after a tough selection, they officially became the WYGU volunteer team! Congrats to the finalists: Lauren, Demmi, Ina, and Cristina! These girls come from different corners of the earth, and they have different majors – journalism, HR, marketing and political science. But they all something essential in common: they engaged with WYGU enough to feel that they can bring a significant contribution to our community. And they want to!!
A special seat remains free. That’s because we didn’t want to accept applications from people who wanted to volunteer in general, but didn’t really get on the website to see what it’s all about. You cannot possibly do good work on WYGU if you don’t at least sign up and play with it a bit.
I wish this to be more than volunteering. I wish you girls to like it so much, that you won’t feel you’re doing this as means to another end. As a community manager, I’ll do my best to make this a challenging and highly pleasurable experience, to make each of us learn a lot and love WYGU even more because it slowly becomes a part of us.
I’d also wish to have you girls here with me in London, so that we could meet each other in person, have a beer each week, and perhaps become friends. I hope physical distance won’t keep us apart emotionally, and I’ll try to find all possible solutions to make us work together easily and feel part of a team.
For those who read this – this is only the beginning. Any WYGU user is welcome in joining our core team if (s)he wants. If you want to get involved, just drop me a line and we’ll see how we can work together.
For now, I just want to congratulate these four special girls, and tell them: well, let’s begin! I’m so excited!
